Twice in the space of a week I had occasion to stop for sustenance in Craigmillar. My second visit was a breakfast time so I thought a trip Margaret’s, on Niddrie Mains Road, looked like the right way to go.
A very friendly wee place with room for ten to sit in, they do most of the business as takeaway with a steady stream of folks coming in to sample their very reasonably priced breakfast rolls.
I was in the mood for something heartier so ordered their full Scottish breakfast which brought together all the usual suspects. I added a mug of builders’ tea as seemed fitting.
The breakfast was soon with me looking pretty smart. It proved to be one of the better breakfasts of its type I’ve had in a while.
Star of the show was a tangerine yolked fried egg that was cooked just beautifully. Everything else on the plate, from the bacon to the sausage to the black pudding to the haggis was really good, too. The tattie scone was spot on.
So overall, I was very impressed with Margaret’s. Along with the nearby White House, this part of town looks well served for breakfast and lunchtime scran. I’d be happy to recommend Margaret’s to you next time you’re in these parts as their breakfast is really good.
