Out of the Box

From the folks behind popular breakfast spot Cafe Blue Bear comes a new coffee and events catering van – well, horsebox – called Out of the Box.

Trading most days from a pitch in Inverleith Park, I popped along on a sunny Wednesday to check out their wares.

The horsebox is very smart and they’ve certainly packed in quite an array of machinery into a very small space.

There’s a coffee machine pouring very good quality Steampunk espresso (£2), a grill plate for bacon rolls and such, as well as a little oven for reheating other whatnots.

As well as sampling the espresso, my eye was caught by their Scotch eggs. The friendly counter man said that he could heat two of them, served on salad leaves, for £3.50, which sounded good to me.

Once prepared, I was able to sit on a nearby park bench and munch at my leisure.

The little bit of heat was a decent idea as it perked them up nicely. They proved enjoyably good eating, with the salad leaves a good fresh accompaniment. This was smart and simple stuff.

So overall, Out of the Box looks to be doing very good work with a strong coffee offering and a good array of snackage to nibble on. Whatever takes you to the park – walking the dog, playing with the kids at the swing park, playing tennis or petanque at the public courts – make sure to stop by and grab something on your way.
