I was glad to have another slightly unusual starting point for today’s lunchtime wanderings which meant that I could stroll down and check out Mulberry Bush on Newhaven Road. I’d spotted it when I’d been along at The Pitt and thought it looked worth a visit.
Their menu brings together breakfast rolls, homemade soups and pies, a hot dish of the day each day, along with freshly made sandwiches.
I opted for their soup of the day, which was Scotch broth, followed by a hummus and falafel baguette.
It took a moment for the friendly counter people to put these together so I had a chance to take in the neat and tidy surroundings, which featured a particularly smart ornamental mirror.
With my items in hand, I ventured forth. I started with the soup which proved really good. It packed good meaty notes and had a lovely rustic texture. I liked it a lot.
The baguette was to a similarly impressive standard. It was scarcely groundbreaking, but each element from the nutty falafel to the…nutty hummus to the crisp salad and fresh bread was really good.
So overall, Mulberry Bush is doing really good work for a very reasonable cost. I’d be more than happy if this were my local sandwich shop. I’ll need to pop by again to give one of their homemade pies a shot. You should visit, too.
