Fountainbridge Fridays continue to flourish with a regularly circulating roster of traders offering a really good selection to people in need of a lunchtime or early evening nosh.
Today’s traders included a fresh looking stall called Grumpy, which is an excellent name for a vegan and vegetarian place. Eventually there should be street food stalls named after all the dwarfs.
Anyhoo, there were some options to consider across their core offering of quiches and salads. I settled upon the aubergine, parsley, barberry, garlic and saffron kuku – an Iranian quiche variant – which I had served with a mix of their three different salads (£6).
Barberries were a new one on me and are apparently small dried sweet and sour berries popular in Iranian cooking.
The salad box was packed to the brim with the quiche buried under a veritable mountain of greenery.
The standout salad of the three was the parsley, pearl barley, feta and cashew one which packed excellent flavour and textural variation.
The quiche was really good, too, with light and crisp pastry and a good and fresh filling. It hit the spot rather well.
So overall, Grumpy made me happy. It was a huge portion of fresh and healthy goodness that I enjoyed very much. Make sure to check them out next time you visit Fountainbridge Fridays.
