Another Friday, another trip to the Fountainbridge Street Food market to sample more of their burgeoning delights. The weather was once again kind so the crowds were large and appreciative.
On this visit I opted to give newer trader Street Balls a try. From the back of a wee van, their offering focused on beef, lamb or chicken balls, served with a choice of Italian, Indian or Moroccan sauces, with various additional toppings available.
I sought advice from the friendly stallholder who steered me towards the beef balls. I ordered a tub of five for £5 – they offer meatball sandwiches and bigger tubs, also – which I topped with the Italian sauce, then some capers, rocket and parmesan.
I ate as I walked without too much damage to my tie and general apparel. The beefy balls were pretty good with meaty flavour and well-judged texture.
There was room for improvement on the sauce though, as it ended up very watery and didn’t offer too much pizzazz.
So overall, Street Balls have a good core offering and nice set-up, but there was some room for the sauce I sampled to be better. I look forward to visiting again to give one of their other options a go.
