Noughts & Coffees
Noughts & Coffees, on Dalry Road, opened a few months ago without much ceremony or fuss. I’d popped in to check it out and been slightly confused by it.
It’s the cafe/front shop of one of those “we lock in a room for an hour” places called Escape. They have another one in a basement on St Colme Street, as well as in other Scottish cities.
I’m not sure the room was open for business when the cafe launched, but now that it is the set up remains largely unchanged, as locking people in a room for an hour is not a high generator of cafe traffic affair.
As with other stops, I sampled their espresso which at £1.30 for a double is certainly very inexpensive. It was fine; a perfectly decent Italian roast made to a reasonable standard, but unlikely to set your heart aflutter.
The welcome from the counter man was extremely warm, though, and he made a good case for coming and giving the escape room a try. I dare say I’ll get roped in at some point.
So overall, while the coffee at Noughts & Coffees was pretty ordinary, I enjoyed the welcome and have somewhat warmed to this very odd little place. Chapter One is better for coffee, but if you happen to be looking for another option nearby you could do worse than stop in here.
