I’d visited La Lanterna a good while back, when it was in previous ownership, so thought it was time for another check-in. With a cold brewing, I felt the need for a hearty lunchtime feed.
With a three-course lunchtime menu for £6.45, the place is highly popular with value hunters. The deal is pretty simple: soup, dough balls or potato skins to start; a pasta or pizza dish for main; coffee or dessert of the day to finish.
I plotted the minestrone, sausage and wild broccoli pizza, espresso route to success.
The starter soup was much as expected. It was hearty, chunky and warming if a little ordinary. It was good for my cold, though, so nailed the brief.
The base of the pizza was a little too doughy and soft for my tastes, but the topping was really good with the sausage particularly pleasing.
The espresso was pretty routine.
So overall, I enjoyed La Lanterna. The service was quick and super friendly and the food was just what was required. I even quite enjoyed them playing Everybody’s Got To Learn Sometime on a loop throughout my visit. Go next time you need a substantial lunchtime feed.
