Badabing had been kind enough to play host to Massive Scran Salon back in September 2015, shortly after they opened. This was a really enjoyable evening during which they provided us with a small insight into their Italian gangster themed menu. I remember pizza. I thought I’d pop back to give it a proper look over, now it has had a chance to settle in.
The interior has a kitsch charm with velour and leatherette to the fore. The Sopranos gangster theme oozes from every glittery spangle. I quite liked it, but others may find it over the top. The nightly piano player, much in the same style as sister bar Rat Pack, will likewise divide opinion.
Their menu is full of quirky dish names from which I chose “Machine Gun Kelly’s” mac n cheese and a “Jimmy the Weasel” veggie burger.
Dishes soon arrived – I’d asked for them both at the same time due to slight time pressure – looking much as expected.
I started with the mac which was good and cheesy and well cooked. It hit the spot.
The veggie burger had some good elements to it. The onion rings and battered mushrooms were nicely crisp, as was the burger, but the bun was pretty poor and things didn’t quite come together. The fries were, once again, very crisp so there were just about more successes than failures.
So overall, I quite enjoyed my trip to Badabing. The mac n cheese was the highlight so I’d definitely come back for that. It’s a quirky place that will definitely appeal to a broad constituency of folks so make sure to pop in next time you’re passing.
