Much like the nearby Edinburgh Bakehouse, I’d walked past Picnics on a number of occasions, but usually late on weekend afternoons when it was closed. I found myself in this part of town and in need of a quick bite so stopped by.

A pretty routine little sandwich counter space, the friendly owner greeted me warmly while he set about assembling items to order for those in front of me in the queue.

When it was my turn, I ordered from their daily changing specials board, opting for the chicken kofta wrap. This was put together and passed on in no time.

I munched as I walked back down towards town. The wrap proved pretty good eating, with crisp salad and good substance to the wrap components. The kofta were aromatically spiced and really rather good, which was pleasing.

So overall, Picnics did the job of addressing lunchtime hunger very nicely. The wrap I had was flavour-packed and suitably filling. I’d be happy to pop in again next time I need a quick bite on the go in this neighbourhood.
