I was aware that Hotel Chocolat had a little cafe at the rear of their Frederick Street premises, but hadn’t had occasion to visit, not least because I’m not a huge fan of hot chocolate unless I have a truly gargantuan hangover.
However, when I spotted their shop open when I was passing, the other day, I seized the opportunity to give it a try.
Serving Union Hand Roasted to go with their wide selection of chocolate options, the friendly counter woman was soon efficiently about the task of fixing me an espresso (£1.50).
It proved pretty good. I have this sense that I’ve never had coffee from Union prepared to a really high standard and again this was good without hitting greatness. Still is was a solidly good effort from a place that I imagine does the vast majority of their business in chocolate.
So overall, I was glad to finally stop in at Hotel Chocolat’s cafe and pleased to find their coffee in good form. I’d be happy to call in again, next time I feel the need for Union.
