We’ve had a little outcropping of cafes acquiring second and third sites, of late. We’ve had Jon Sharp’s collection of coffee shops for a while (to which a new one is due to be added soon, I hear), but now we have five Milks, a couple of Brewlabs with potentially more on the way, and three Leo’s, with their middle child, Leo and Ted’s, today’s chosen venue for lunch.

For more on this, I’d commend the Edinburgh Coffee Lovers latest post to you.

I’d visited Leo and Ted’s a couple of times for coffee and found the beautifully compact premises and warm welcome absolutely charming.

Their coffee, with a house blend by Hands On and regularly changing guest blends, had been consistently delivered to a very good standard on all visits and today was no exception.

They keep things simple on the food front with cakes and pastries, then a selection of soups and filled bagels for savoury tooths.

I opted for their chickpea and chorizo soup which came with two hunks of good fresh bread. The soup was highly enjoyable with a good, smooth texture studded with chorizo pieces. It hit the spot very nicely.

So overall, Leo and Ted’s is doing extremely good work. From a very smart little shop they’re maintaining the excellent standard set by the New Town mothership. I look forward to many future visits.
