I’d visited Dough back during the Festival and been impressed with their large, well-crafted pizzas. I’ve popped in a couple of times since then, sometimes for a quick slice, other times for a full pie. I’ve been pleased on all occasions, but feel I haven’t quite found the killer dish on their menu.
I noted they had a lunchtime selection, so when I found myself in this part of town on a crisply clear Friday, I stopped in to check it out.
The welcome from the counter guys is always friendly and notably polite. It was no exception today. There’s room for three small tables holding maybe eight people if everyone gets friendly. I was on the go, though, so opted for takeaway.
I quickly settled upon the chef’s special from one of their chalkboards, which promised a panino salamella, This brought together Tuscan sausage, onions, rocket and a tomato sauce in a homemade bread pocket. This was toasted in their impressive open pizza oven and soon with me. I ate as I walked.
It looked monstrously good and proved extremely satisfying eating. The sausage was flavour-packed, profuse and oozingly juicy. The bread had a fresh, light, crispness to it. It was one of the better hot sandwiches I’ve had in a good while.
So overall, Dough continues to do very good work. Their pizzas are made to a very high standard and their lunchtime selection demonstarted very good quality. I will no doubt be back again soon and would recommend you do the same.
