Newly opened on Morrison Street in the stretch that includes the EICC and various other offices, Cafe Klaris caught my eye the other day, so I was glad to have an early opportunity to visit.

Run by the team behind Waka, this is a completely new cafe space on the ground floor of the Atria One offices. I found the place abuzz when I arrived, but this was mainly with the furious activity of the five staff members behind the counter.

The place has a contemporary feel to it with one wall displaying a massive woodland scene, then wood and exposed ducts dominating the rest of the space. It feels like it has a little bedding in to do, but is smart and welcoming.

Given my visit was at breakfast time I kept my order simple, so the friendly counter team were soon about the task of preparing my bacon and sausage roll. I added an espresso just to confirm once more than I really don’t like Matthew Algie coffee. Mission accomplished.

The roll was soon with me, so once I’d worked out a method to eat it on the go while holding an umbrella at the same time, all was good.

The roll proved very good with two pleasing sausages and a decent amount of bacon in a hearty roll. It was really good stuff.

So overall, Cafe Klaris looks to be setting off on the right track. They could use a change of coffee to something rather better, but their breakfast roll more than made up for the espresso disappointment. Give it a visit next time you’re passing.
