Coffee bar

Coffee bar

Quite early one morning I toddled along to Cockburn Street to give a new coffee shop I’d spotted, called The Milkman, a try. Now I’ve fallen foul of ignoring the name of places with my ordering, with the best example of this being when I didn’t have a baked potato at the nearby Baked Potato Shop (I swiftly rectified that), so was concerned that my usual milkless espresso order was going to violate that rule again. Fortunately, they described themselves as an espresso bar, so I was suitably reassured.

The interior is all bare stone, wood and pipes. The espresso bar is a work of art, again uniting stone, wood and pipes. It’s really very smart.

I was in my usual espresso mood so ordered one to sit in. The food offering is all pastries and cakes for now, but sandwiches will follow in due course.

The coffee is from Glasgow roastery Dear Green which finally seems to be getting an Edinburgh foothold after only being available in Pekoe and Pep & Fodder for quite a while.

Delivered with a friendly smile, it was the expected very good stuff, with nice balance and brightness.

I’ll need to come back and visit when their savoury food offering is up and running, but for now The Milkman is one to add to your coffee round. I look forward to stopping in again soon when perhaps I’ll try something with milk in it, as that would seem appropriate to the name of the place.
