Just next to Gorgie City Farm in the location that has been various pubs serving the needs of Hearts supporters – Tynecastle stadium is just over the road – Entwine has recently opened, taking the location in rather a different direction. A smart Italian bar/bistro, I popped in to see how it was getting on.

Offering a keenly priced lunchtime menu of two courses for £8.95, this seemed a good fit for me as I wasn’t overly blessed with time on this rather dreich day.

I opened with some garlic mushrooms then followed with a Hawaiian pizza, which brought a much needed ray of sunshine to cut through the gloom.

The mushrooms soon arrived, delivered by the exceptionally attentive and helpful waitress. It was a very simple dish of lightly fried mushrooms in an intensely garlicky oil, but it was well executed and very pleasing.

The pizza was pretty good, too, but the soft and easily folded base, which lent itself well to the shove faceward method of consumption, was just a little bit heavy making it a slightly poor choice, on my part, for lunchtime eating. It would do very nicely as a substantial part of an evening meal, though.

So overall, I really rather enjoyed Entwine. I think they have some work to do to convince the local community to take this smart Italian bistro to their hearts, if you pardon the pun, but they definitely have an opportunity to do so based on the quality of the fare I sampled today. Make sure to pop in next time you’re in this part of the city.
