It’s always good to see a new hot food option at the Castle Terrace Farmers’ Market and particularly exciting when it’s a spin-off from one of the local producers. Such was the case with today’s trip to Good Life, purveyors of fine rose veal.

Their menu board held some really tempting options so I asked the very friendly counter man for a recommendation. He suggested I should try the big breakfast wrap (£4), which comprised smoked veal rashers, two veal sausages, an egg done either fried or as an omelette (I opted for the latter in the hope of not ruining another perfectly good shirt), and salad. This sounded grand to me.

Cooked freshly to order on a George Foreman grill, these items were then expertly wrapped in a tortilla casing. Money was exchanged and I was on my way.

It proved outstandingly good eating with the sausages just magnificent and the smoked rashers a real delight. The egg was top work, too.

The only mis-step was with the wrap which wasn’t toasted and was just bland cardboard. A fresh approach is needed to match the casing with the quality of the filling.

So overall, if Good Life can come up with an improved approach to their wrap casings, they have a 5 star dish on their hands. The veal elements were absolutely tremendous so you must go and try them. I look forward to many future visits.
