I’ve wandered through Corstorphine a fair bit in daylight hours, stopping at various places, including Weyzig’s, but I’ve rarely been out this way for evening dining. With Redwood Bistro ready to open (I look forward to visiting, soon), I thought I’d toddle along and see what the nearby places were like. I alighted upon Wong’s which looked a likely spot, so popped in to give it a shot.

A traditionally appointed Chinese place, complete with lazy Susans and a back page menu entirely in Chinese (for those in the know), the interior is light, airy and smart.

From the extensive menu, I started with hot and sour soup, then followed with one of their clay pot dishes, a lamb casserole. The inevitable fried rice was added for the sake of carbs.

The soup promptly arrived and looked neat and tidy. It packed a good amount of heat and sourness, in a nicely harmonious balance. The soup was packed with a good selection of chicken pieces, sweetcorn, tofu and a couple of little sweet prawns. It was a satisfying start to proceedings.

The main course was to the same very good standard. The lamb was profuse, tender and delicious, with fragrant spicing. The rice was light and a good accompaniment.

So overall, I was pleased with what I found at Wong’s. It’s a high quality, friendly neighbourhood Chinese doing good work. I’d be happy to visit again to try more dishes from their menu.
