The regular Taster Days at the Tram Stop Market have been a great opportunity not only for traders to try out new ideas, but also for enthusiastic eaters like me to sample new dishes.

Topping today’s list of fresh talent were the Pasta Punks. Based in Portobello, they’ve been taking their initial steps on the street food scene, this summer, with appearances at a couple of festivals around the country. This was their first day of trading at an Edinburgh market.

Their offering focusses on classic Italian combinations delivered it smartly constructed and well-priced salads. Today they had a little bruschetta special, featuring freshly made tapendade. I tried a little sample; it was a tasty morsel.

From a selection of three (seafood, salami or veggie), I opted for their fennel salami and artichoke salad (£3.50). This was topped with freshly grated grana padano cheese, black garlic & thyme oil, and rocket.

It proved to be a fresh and satisfying eat. Each mouthful packed punchy flavour and a good range of textures. The portion size was nicely judged providing a good lunchtime eat. I was very pleased with it.

So overall, the Pasta Punks are doing very good work. I look forward to seeing how things develop as they grow their offering over the coming weeks and months. Catch them at Stockbridge Market, tomorrow, then hopefully again at the Tram Stop in the future.
