Orinoco

On an afternoon where the weather couldn’t quite make up its mind, I toddled down to Stockbridge to visit the regular Sunday market.

As is so often the case, I had an excellent range of options to choose from with a number of stalls that I hadn’t previously tried. I settled upon Orinoco, which was showcasing latin American food.

The centrepiece of their offering is the arepa, a corn flatbread, which they make on the grill then slice open and pack with your choice filling.

I opted for the pabellon (£5), a mix of beef, plantain and black beans that I’d tried previously on a visit to nearby Sabor Criollo.

I had a feeling that it was going to be a messy eat, but it actually held together really pretty well. The elements were all very tasty, with the beef soft and flavour packed. It was a filling and satisfying item.

So overall, I was very pleased with Orinoco. Their arepas reminded me of the gua bao from Ninja Buns and had the same versatility, lending themselves to a range of fillings. I look forward to trying more of their flavour combos on future visits.
