Diner 42, the evening incarnation of Appetite Direct, on Howe Street, has popped-up for the month, to lure in lucrative Festival trade.
Their menu is focussed and simple with salads, burgers and burritos on the savoury front, then a little selection of desserts.
I fancied two courses of savoury, so asked for a half-sized starter portion of their beetroot and goat’s cheese salad (£4) then followed with their pork belly burger (£9.50). The place is BYO (£3.50 corkage per person) by I was happy to stick to soft drinks (apple and rhubarb juice – £0.80).
The salad promptly arrived looking very neat and tidy. The cheese was herb covered and very tasty. It was a crisp and fresh opener. The burger was extremely good. A good sesame bun was amply filled with moist and satisfying pork and crisp slaw. It was a winner of dish.
Things were rounded out with espresso (£2). This was a rare off note in what was an otherwise highly impressive experience.
So overall, Diner 42 is a great little Festival dining option. The menu is full of tasty treats and is very reasonably priced. I’d recommend a visit over the final few days of Festival merriment.
