Bacon and black pudding roll

Bacon and black pudding roll

On Dalry Road, Cafe Avalon is an understated little place. It used to be a “leather and lace” shop with incredibly creepy mannequins in the window. I was tickled to see one of them still in residence at a table, when I crossed the threshold.

On this breakfast time visit, I was in need of a light feed, but had time to sit in and munch it. I ordered a bacon and black pudding roll with an accompanying espresso.

The chatty and attentive counter man got to work preparing the items to order.

These were soon with me. The roll proved nicely tasty. The bacon was profuse and well cooked and the black pudding was rather good. I was happy with it.

I was interested in the napkin that lurked beneath. It had a little brown sauce smudge on it by the time I’d munched the roll, but it had a clear and simple statement from a Parkinson’s charity. It struck me as a very good mechanism for conveying the idea and not one I’ve seen widely used.

So overall, Cafe Avalon is doing good work. The chap running the place is wonderfully friendly and has the place ticking along with minimal fuss. I’d be happy to visit again.
