Deli Italia

We seem to be in the midst of another little flurry of new openings, with at least half dozen places having recently launched or preparing to open.

A new branch of Patisserie Jacob on South Bridge is one that caught the eye a week or two back so I thought I’d see if it was open. Sadly it wasn’t quite yet, so I tootled a little further up the road to Deli Italia, instead.

Soup

Soup

A simple takeout shop, it offers a broad range of hearty daily options across sandwiches, hot dishes, soups and paninis. I opted for a combo of the latter two with lentil soup and a chicken and brie panini.

The counter woman was super friendly and went about the preparation of items with care and attention.

Panini

Panini

The soup proved to be very good. It was an impressively tasty lentil soup with oodles of flavour and a well-judged texture. The panini was less good. The cheese had gone rather stringy and proved a rather messy proposition. It didn’t pack much punch either.

So overall, it was a bit of a mixed bag from Deli Italia. The service and soup were both very good. Other aspects weren’t quite so strong. I’d happily pop back to try some more of their soup, though.
