February 20, 2014 Breakfast, Tollcross 1 Comment

I’d only just discovered Crusts, on Fountainbridge, after visiting the Fountain Café, the other day. I was glad to be able to pay it a breakfast time visit, today, although must admit I was beginning to grow weary of such early starts to my day.

A simple little takeaway shop they have space for just two folks to sit at their window shelf seats. I took up one of those spots after ordering some porridge topped with banana and mixed seeds from the wonderfully friendly counter women.

My love of cornicing was given a fresh expression as their interior was topped with a lovely example of it. Indeed they’ve made a little modification for some upstairs storage space that highlights the ceiling’s elegance.

My love of porridge is slightly less well developed, but I’m starting to get there. This example had quite a soft texture to it and the combination of fruit and seeds brought both good flavour and some healthy crunch. I was pleased with it.

So overall, I really enjoyed the warm welcome at Crusts and their food set me up very nicely on a freezing cold day. I noticed they do both haggis and black pudding rolls as a Friday special so they can expect a visit from me to give them a try, at some point soon.
