Having enjoyed some lovely bunny chow at Curry with a Kilt, the other day, I was keen to see how Ubuntu’s take on this South African-Indian classic compared. I headed to George Square gardens to find out.

Their stall offers a broader range of South African dishes, with boerewors rolls and other meaty delights from the braai.

Their bunny chow filling changes daily. Today, rather helpfully for my healthy living regimen, the filling was a veggie chilli stew, heavy on beans and spinach (£6).

This was lovely stuff, and perhaps even a little better than the kilted version. It certainly had more theatrical drama to it, and was just a little more eye-catching.

However, the bread was nowhere near as good, which was a shame. Still, I was pleased with it, overall.

So, from my bunny chow exploits, I think the bread from Curry with a Kilt coupled with the filling from Ubuntu would be the perfect combo. Certainly, bunny chow is now established in my mind as a Festival favourite, so I look forward to sampling further interpretations of the dish.
