Stockbridge is amply served by many stylish cafes, bars and restaurants. It also has a very enjoyable little breakfast roll purveyor, in the shape of The Sizzler, to where I wandered, this morning.
A very keenly priced place, I had a double decker breakfast roll and a big mug of tea for £2.50, which is as cheap as the breakfast deal at Izzy’s, in Portobello.
The friendly counter woman was quickly about the business of preparing my bacon and black pudding roll, with the tones of John Humphreys, on the Today programme, providing the lilting background accompaniment.
As I sipped from my Glencoe mug, I considered what looked to be a very tasty morning roll. The filling, upon inspection, looked reassuringly messy, topped as it was with a good glug of brown sauce.
The encasing roll outshone the filling, which was fairly routine. I’m a big fan of morning rolls, which will not come as news to regular readers. This was a really good, fresh example. It pleased me, muchly.
So overall, The Sizzler is a cheap and cheerful breakfast stop. There’s a good deal better quality on offer, nearby, but when a bacon roll is calling, it represents a fair and reasonable choice.
