The Year in Review – August 2012

Social Bite - well worth a visit

Festival month was full of lunchtime joy and very little dip in quality or accuracy of service, this year.

Social Bite, a highly appealing place, opened its doors, with its high quality, ethically sourced all-day fare proving popular. If you haven’t yet visited, take yourself along to Rose Street and sample their wares.

The Edinburgh Larder Bistro proved a real favourite, serving innovative and well thought-out dishes, focussing on excellent local produce.

I really enjoyed the Cellar Door, on George IV Bridge. They served me a really good steak, in smart surroundings.

We had our first visit to Gardener’s Cottage in August, but we’re still working on the review, as a place with such seasonality at its heart requires a good few visits to form a comprehensive view.

Most popular review of the month was Pep and Fodder, a new café on Waterloo Place, from the folks behind the Bon Vivant. Specialising in marvellously dressed salads, I’ve been quite a frequent visitor to this place, and not just because it happens to be near to my office.
